The Soundtrack of Childhood: The Story Behind Xuxa’s Iconic Birthday Anthem
If you have ever attended a Brazilian children’s birthday party, chances are you have heard a bright, infectious voice shouting cheerful birthday wishes accompanied by an upbeat, synth-driven pop beat. That voice belongs to Maria da Graça Xuxa Meneghel—affectionately known across Brazil as the “Rainha dos Baixinhos” (Queen of the Little Ones).
Among her massive catalog of children’s classics, “Parabéns da Xuxa” (Xuxa’s Happy Birthday Song) holds a legendary status. More than just a track on a record, it has spent decades serving as an essential cultural ritual for generations of Brazilians.
A Generation-Defining Tradition
Released during the height of Xuxa’s television phenomenon in the late 1980s and 1990s—primarily through her iconic Xou da Xuxa album series—her birthday track quickly became a mandatory feature at celebrations.
